PC <-> UNIX FTP Same-named files treated as different

Post by DailySpeecial »

I'm trying to use Synchronize It! to manage program source code between my PC and various UNIX and Linux systems. But files that exist in both places are treated as different files (not just that they aren't the same, but they are different file names).

For example the file write.i is on my PC and on the remote UNIX system. But they are listed separately. It appears if I were do sync it as it stands, write.i would be sent from my PC to the host only to then be deleted.

In this case the target FTP system is IBM AIX.

Also, is there an option for ASCII transfers with FTP?

Just to be sure - you do know that case matter on linux systems? Do you have option "Use lowercase for names" for this server?
As for ascii mode, program should select automatically which mode to use, but I guess I could add an option to force it.

Yes, I'm aware of the case sensitivity of UNIX file names.

No, I do not have user lower case file names checked.

I think it's something specific to Ain't unIX (IBM AIX). Seems to work correctly when the host is Red Hat Linux.

The automatic ascii/binary transfer is not working. I've sent/received files to/from the host and in every case it's done a binary transfer and not correctly converted the end-of-line sequence.

Thank you for the response.

So I assume that problem file names look identical on both sides, and still Synchronize It! tries to add a copy instead of overwriting? Des this work in both directions, or just for server upload?
I will check transfer type issue, thank you.

Yes, the file names look the same on both sides. It's very strange in that some files do come across as expected.

It looks something like:

Source ............................ Target
----------------------------------------
- File1
- File2
- File3
- File4 .............................. File4
- ...................................... File1
- ...................................... File2
- ...................................... File3

Can you make a screenshot or report and send it to support@grigsoft.com? Maybe the problem is specific file names?

I am also looking for the Binary/Ascii control because I would like to sync between unix-formatted and dos-formatted source files. Has there been an update since the last post?

Thanks,

No, text\binary switch is not yet available.
