Rather than hard-coding this, can you make this an option in the installer, so that the user can choose to install the ANSI version on a UNICODE capable system? I maintain a number of systems, some of which are not UNICODE capable (old Win98 and ME systems), and I want to run the same version on all...

It looks like there is a maximum length: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830473 : On computers running Microsoft Windows XP or later, the maximum length of the string that you can use at the command prompt is 8191 characters. On computers running Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0, the maximum...

Well that explains it. Then I won't continue to try it any more. I suppose that when wincmp launchs the external app for a converter, it could always launch the application as a command line parameter to the cmd.exe program (the command shell), using rhe /C option so that you always launch the shell...

Problem with converter for zip files

This may not be a bug, but I'm having difficulty getting a converter set up. I wan to set up a converter for zip files, using wzzip.exe for winzip. I have set up a converter like this, but it does not seem to work. It always says the files are identical, and it shows both zip files as empty files. H...

So be able to use a command line parameter, such as /ini= or /config= and then specify a file like the wincmp3.ini file which contains the settings that control the behavior of the comparison?

If I were to create a shortcut in some directory, lets say c:\work, and I called the shortcut diff, then a file called diff.lnk will show up in that directory. Then if I have a command shell open, and set my current working directory to that directory, then I can run that shortcut by typing "diff.ln...

Great plan. Its nice in some cases to have quick access to some particular type of configuration settings, but it is really great knowing that if I want to configure everything about a program, that I can go to one place rather than having to wander around multiple menu items for individual specific...

Perfect.

I spent some time looking through the help file, and the menus, but I did not notice this.

Thanks for thinking ahead.

Put Tools item on the Options dialog

I would like to see the Tools>Customize dialog also show up on the Options>Options dialog, just like the Converters show up on the Options dialog. In this way, all the options are available from the same dialog. However, it is quite convenient that the Customize menu item is also on the Tools menu, ...

Add ability to apply converters after files loaded

I have added the converters that are on your web site, but I left the file patterns mostly empty. I do not always want to have the files matching that pattern converted before loading. But once I have the files loaded, I may want to "switch" the files to a different "view" of the files that the conv...

An internal option would be good. The problem with shortcuts, is that they only work from the desktop, not from a command shell. I run wincmp and wndsync from the command shell the majority of the time right where my source files to compare are located, and I specify the files/folders to compare on ...

3 way compare/merge?

I noticed in your "planned" features, that you mention a 3 way compare/merge, and I was wondering how that is coming along?

If that planned for wincmp4?

Allow a "dircmd" type of environment variable for

Some "DOS" type commands, such as DIR and XCOPY, allow you to specify command line parameters in an environment variable (called DIRCMD and COPYCMD). So in case you always want certain command line parameters passed each time, you don't have to keep adding them on the command line - you just define ...

Can I add my request for this as well? I would really prefer to use a single tool for both files and directories. To be honest, I find wndsync difficult to use. When I launch it from the command line, it always displays the dialog with the folders I specified rather than just comparing them right of...
