Custom syntax files in 4.1

Post by Gingko »

Hello,

Are custom syntax files working in Compare It! 4.1 ?
It seems that I cannot get anyone working, although taken from the ConTEXT web site.

I tried PHP/HTML, BASH Script and NSIS Script.

Dialog screenshot for NSIS Script :

(full syntax file path, here, is C:\Program Files\Compare It!\syntax\NsisScript.chl).
  • Compare It! version 4.1.2170
  • Windows XP Professional SP3
Otherwise perfectly working with internal syntax hilighting (like C++).

What am I doing wrong ?

It does work for me. Do you have syntax enabled at View>EnableSyntax? Also, try moving syntax file to another folder - maybe there is some problem with reading file from it's current location.

Yes, it is enabled. See picture.

I put them into the specific "C:\Program Files\Compare It!\syntax" directory created by Compare It  ! installation.
Anyway, trying another one, for example D:\TEMP\ doesn't make any change.

Do you want I send you a copy of my wincmp3.ini export file ?

Ok, I just sent it.

Just checked also, but no change.

I also quickly tried on another computer with same OS, and same result (no colors).

Additional information, all my Windows installations are French localized. Maybe it could be related ?
(I also normally use French dictionary in Compare It !, but I reverted to English for the purpose of this report)

I will try to make other tests, for example on Windows Vista or Windows Seven.

I have answered by email, but in case somebody else will have similar problem - try moving your file filter to the top of the list. If coloring will start working, check your filters - some filters may have * or similar which matches all files. I will make program to detect this.

Thank you very much, it works. I effectively had this kind of pattern, inherited from an old version install (I never wrote it).

Maybe something should be made for avoiding that any given pattern could completely mask another one following it in the list.
