Convert on demand

Post by lev »

I'd like to have a button to convert a file not automatically, but on demand.
I'd like to be able to select a converter if there are several converters for this type of file.
I'd like to be able to switch back to non-converted mode to make edits which I decided to do while comparing converted files. And then back to the first suggestion.

You can always select which converter to use (or see as plain text) in menu View>ViewAs. If you have several converters for same file mask, first one will be used by default. You can also add converter with some unused file mask (never.use) to only select it manually.

Doesn't work for me

Post by Ro Ablate »

I have recently tried to compare an INI file that was not a text file - it was binary.

I tried to convert the standard view (.INI is normally treated as a text file) by using the View>ViewAs>bin2hex.

Nothing changed on the screen - the comparison was still as a text file.

Even when I compare two different EXE files (which has no matching special entry in the Options>Options>File_Filters), I cannot get a hex view.

Any other ideas or suggests, or is this a bug that needs fixing?

Using v3.8.6.1785

Does bin2hex works for you for any other files? Maybe it's just not correctly configured?

Doh!
New machine, with a new path.

The converters I use most are internal converters (PDF, etc).

I forgot there was any setup for these converters.

Thanks for the reminder.
